We have a series of podcasts for children, young people and families who are coming to hospital for general anaesthesia.
Cartoons to help you understand what will happen when you come to hospital for your operation.
We would love to hear about your stories of coming to hospital or having an operation. Click here to hear about other children’s adventures and find out how to share yours
Once there was an Anaesthetist called Kate. She often looked after children and young people for their operations. She could see that children and their grown ups were often nervous and unsure about what was going to happen. She thought "we could definitely do something to help kids and their families feel less nervous about coming to hospital. One weekend she went to a music festival with her own children and heard the greatest hits of The Barrowband including "Broccoli" and "Willy Worm" and thought "These guys are cool and they're trying to keep kids healthy too." Kate and The Barrowband got together and talked about their ideas. The Barrowband wrote some new songs while Kate told the story. Next Kate thought- what about all the families who speak a language that is not English when they are at home? She contacted the Dundee Council Bilingual Service and they translated the scripts into Arabic, Polish & Punjabi and Dundee school students recorded the podcasts for us. They were all brilliant! We knew that lots of people love bright colours and pictures so Dr Kellaher and Isabel Revans drew us some beautiful artwork to go alongside. We have been so lucky to have such a great team from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. This project is just getting started, we'd love to hear what you think of it and where we should go next.
